I have 1 mastercard, 1 visa and one store card and I had them all maxed out cause I had some money issues when I first started school. but I paid them all off completely today will that improve my score alot cause I am sitting a the horrible 539 or something like that.
I almost always pay my bills on time, maybe late like 3 times, and I have 3 inquires in the last year,

I have excellent credit and good credit score. I have bunches of credit cards, both store and visa, etc that I want to cancel. There are zero balances on all, haven’t used them in years, and just want them off my credit report as "closed by customer’s request" which shows they were not cancelled for any bad credit reason. Will this hurt my credit score?? I know if you have balances or delbt other places, it can hurt, but I have no debt and no balances on them. Thanks!

One of us has about -k in student loans that have been deffered for the last 8 years with payments just now beginning AND a few bad credit cards that have been placed into collection. The other of us has a fairly good score, not perfect but good. Will the bad score effect the good score and visa versa? And what if we buy a house….can we just use one of our names on the loan application even if we are married? Just trying to think ahead and be smart…any advice is appreciated!

Also how can I get my credit score to go up? I have a few bad things on my credit that i paid off. A few of them will be erased by February so it should go up a little then. I also have student loans, a closed credit card that i have less than 0 to pay on, a Dillards that has less than 0 on, a Visa that has less than 0 on and then another bill that I am paying by the end of this month. I want to purchase a house in a year so I want to work on bringing my score up some. Any sudggestions?
